How it works
Type Latin and Russian appears as you go: privet → привет. The on-screen keyboard shows where each letter sits; click a key or type on your own. Digraphs work too: sh → ш, ch → ч, zh → ж, shch → щ.
Several phonetic layouts exist (ЯШЕРТ, YaWert, KDWin) — pick the one your fingers know in the Layout menu and it's remembered next time. Pasted Latin? Hit Convert Latin.
FAQ
How do I type Russian on an English or US keyboard?
Type the way it sounds and Russian appears live — e.g. privet → привет. The on-screen keyboard shows where each letter sits; type on your own keyboard or click the keys. Digraphs work too: sh→ш, ch→ч, zh→ж, shch→щ.
What is a Russian phonetic (translit) keyboard?
You type Latin letters by sound and they turn into Cyrillic. If you already have Latin translit text, paste it and press Convert Latin to transliterate it all at once.
Can I choose my phonetic layout?
Yes. Pick ЯШЕРТ, YaWert or KDWin in the Layout menu and your choice is remembered next time.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
It is completely free with no sign-up. It runs in your browser and keeps working offline once loaded.
Does PolyType save what I type?
No. PolyType does not save, collect, upload, or process your text. Your text stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
